Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Alice Jane Bryden, well known Salmon Arm resident, who died suddenly on Friday at the home of her son, Wilfred Bryden, Royal Oak, Burnaby, with whom she had spent the winter annually for several years. The service was held in St. Andrews's Presbyterian church and the numerous friends in attendance testified to the high esteem in which she was held. Rev. Russell Self conducted the last rites, and interment was in Mount Ida cemetery beside the remains of Mr. Bryden, who predeceased her.
The pall bearers were James Lundie, Vancouver; R. N. Jeffers, Wm. Pearce. A. B. Cluse, Ald. W. K. Smith and D.H. Jamieson.
Born in Birmingham, England, Mrs. Bryden was 70 years old and had been a resident of Canada for more than 40 years. Later she and her husband moved to Kerrobert, Sask.,where they remained until 1921 when they came to Salmon Arm. They had resided here ever since.
Mrs. Bryden's death was quite unexpected. She had been down town the day previous and was preparing to return to her home here when she was stricken with a heart attack.
Besides the son whom she was visiting when her death occurred, Mrs. Bryden is survived by one other son, Archie Bryden, Salmon Arm, who recently returned home from Overseas service; one brother Walter Bates, Dossland, Sask., who came to Salmon Arm for the funeral, and several brothers and sisters in England. There are all two granddaughters. Four brothers were killed while serving with the British forces in the Dardanelles in World War 1.
