- Obituary for Kay Bryden
North Augusta, SC? Memorial Services for Mrs. Kay Bryden, 71, who entered into rest July 22, 2016, will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock from St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. Father Geoffrey Coupland officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Memorial Garden.
Kay was a very active member of St. Bartholomew's Church in North Augusta for the past twenty-seven years. Prior to this time she was active in the Episcopal Churches wherever she lived throughout the world and in the United States. She willingly and lovingly responded to the needs of the people around her. Kay helped start and remained faithful to the Church's Brown-Bag Ministry which provides supplemental food to the people residing at The Ledges in North Augusta. She also was in charge of the Altar Guild for twenty plus years serving in this capacity with passion and distinction. Additionally, Kay was a loyal supporter of the Episcopal Church Women and served both on the Diocesan ECW board and as the president of the local chapter. She never met a stranger and she never encounter a ministry or project that she could not support and enrich. Kay did not believe that her faith called her to sit down but rather to stand up and act. She was always rolling stones away from tombs so that people could experience the light of the Resurrected Christ. For the first time in her life, Kay is not working but is resting totally and completely in the Peace of God.
The Eastern Star played a pivotal role in her life and she loved working with her fellow sisters and brothers in any role from serving as the Matron of the Golden Glow Chapter to helping prepare hundreds of pounds of potato salad for the chapter's BBQs. She also was past Grand Matron for the Grand Chapter of South Carolina. Additionally she was active in various community organizations and was once awarded the Sertoma Club's Citizen of the Year. She was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Bryden.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Richard W. Bryden; two sons, Ronald W. Bryden, Prescott, AZ and Matthew P. Bryden (Alishia), Grovetown, GA; a brother, Fred Sumner, Dallas, TX; a sister, Janet Slaymaker, De Moines, IA; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Golden Glow Chapter #76 O.E.S.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5 until 7.
