- Robert Brydon III, 97, of Richmond, died February 15, 2004. He was born October 30, 1906 in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Rev. George MacLaren Brydon D.D. and Nathalie Coleman Brydon of Richmond. He was married for 54 years to Jean Wood Brydon, who predeceased him in 1987. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Captain George M. Brydon Jr., Nathaniel Coleman Brydon; and his sister, Anne Page Brydon. He is survived by his son, Robert Carter Brydon and his wife, Mary Bullard Brydon; his daughter, Jean Brydon Robinson; grandsons, Edward J. Willis III and his wife, [Susan Beatrice Shingleton], and Carter C. Brydon and his wife, Paige; and great-grandsons, Cabell F. Willis, Miller C. Brydon, and MacLaren B. Brydon. He is also survived by step grandchildren, Susannah S. Brown, Joellyn S. Miller, Edward H. Sawyer and his wife, Whitney, Anne R. Burleigh and her husband, [Samuel C. Bowles], Steven D. Robinson and his wife, Gwen, and James L. Robinson and his wife, Catherine. Bob, who grew up in Richmond, attended St. Christopher's School and the University of Virginia. He worked for ten years at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Then, while working at the A&P Tea Co., he became a C.P.A. During his accounting career, he was a partner with Baker, Brydon, Reynolds and Witt and Brydon, McRee & Smith, which merged with Dalton, Pennell & Company. He retired in 1988. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants from 1957 to 1960, and was on several committees including the Legislative Affairs Committee, the Professional Ethics Committee, and the Certified Professional Education (CPE) Steering Committee. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Virginia Society of CPAs, and the Estate Planning Council of Richmond. Bob also wrote several articles for the Virginia Accountants Quarterly. He was a member of the Country Club of Virginia, the Society of Colonial Wars, and the Descendants of Signers of the Declaration of Independence. His hobbies were golf, traveling, and woodworking. The family will receive friends 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, at St. James's Episcopal Church, with burial following in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Westminster Canterbury Foundation or St. James's Episcopal Church.
