- Death of Mr. P. McMillan, at Anyox -
The death occurred on Sunday, July 9th, at 11 a m at the Anyox Hospital, of Mr. P. McMillan, at the age of 70 years. Mr. McMillan has resided in Anyox for the past four years, and has held the position of gate-keeper at the Coke Plant. Deceased was born at Ayr, Scotland, in the year 1852, and came to Canada in 1866, at the early age of 14 years. He resided in Nova Scotia during the early part of his life in Canada and followed the coal mining industry. He was underground manager at the Nova Scotia Mines and was also instructor of mining in the night schools. He came west to British Columbia in 1891, and followed mining in Merritt, and the Wellington, Cumberland, and Extension mines, on Vancouver Island. Mr. McMillan leaves a large family to mourn his loss, including his wife Mrs McMillan, two daughters, Mrs. A. Roberts, and Mrs. Bryden and two sous Robert and John, in Anyox. The funeral Service was conducted by Rev. J. Herdman and the burial took place at the Anyox cemetery. Deceased was a member of the Masonic Order and the pall bearers were all brother masons, namely: J. Conway, J. Ellis, H. Talbot, J. McCallum, 0. L. Champion, A. Crone.
