It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Owen Peter Bryden, age 95, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, on Sunday April 7, 2019, at the Northside General Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born in North Sydney on December 18, 1923, Owen was the son of the late Roderick and Bernadette (Dolomont) Bryden. He was employed with Marine Atlantic as a stevedore foreman until his retirement. Owen was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. In his youth Owen was a competitive speed skater in the Cape Breton area, winning many trophies and medals. Throughout his life, from an early age, he was an avid sailor and was a former Commodore of the Northern Yacht Club, North Sydney, and the last surviving member of the sailors who founded the Northern Yacht Club in its present location.

Owen was predeceased by his wife, the love of his life, Leona (Penny) Bryden, a brother John (Margaret) Bryden, two sisters Mary (Louis) Marinelli and Rita (Alec) MacDougall.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Rita Astephen, for her many years of care to Mom and Dad. Thank you to the nurses of 5 East at the Northside General Hospital, especially, Jordan Popwell, who went above and beyond during Dad's final hours.
