    • S.T. AND F.P. BRYDEN are prominent farmers of their section of the country and are deserving of mention in this work They are the sons of David and Mary Hair Bryden the former a native of Scotia and the latter of Ohio. S.T. was born in Columbus Ohio in 1847 and FP made his arrival on this mundane sphere at Grass Valley Nevada County California in 1854. Their father was among the early arrivals to this coast. From 1849 to 1851 he kept a store at Deer Creek, Nevada County after which he engaged in mining until 1860. His family to California in 1851 via the Panama route. In 1861 they located in Yuba County and parents spent the remainder of their days on the farm where their sons now reside, the father dying in 1874 and the mother in 1878. They were prominent among the early settlers and were respected by all who knew them. The father was an honored member of the IOOF and a carpenter by trade The ranch Messrs Bryden consists of 560 acres of well improved land which they are devoting to production of grain and hay. They also give some attention to stock raising and vineyard. They have over 4,000 vines and most of them in bearing. S.T. Bryden was married in Chico in 1876 to Miss Isabel Thomas, a native of Thompson Flat Butte County, California. They have three children namely Mary E., James E. and Elmer R. F.P. Bryden is a single man.
