    • Mr. William Bryden was a beloved and honored resident of Liverpool for many years. He was born in Scotland and when a youth he worked in the office of the Liverpool Eng., Mercury. He was connected with the customs house in Liverpool up to the time of his death. He was greatly intersted in the Liverpool Transcript, and constantly contributed items to it.

      Mr. Bryden has been for the last thirty years the second officer in the custom department at Liverpool. He has been active in the temperance cause, and was the third person to sign the temperance pledge in Liverpool, in January, 1830. He was appointed secretary of the Queens County Temperance Society in 1832. He was one of the originators of Victoria Division, No. 10, of the Sons of Temperance in 1848, and became a member of the Grand Division of Nova Scotia in the same year. He is also a member of the I. O. of G. T. In all of these societies he held for many years important offices, but on account of ill health resigned them all in 1875. He now resides in Liverpool.
