    • Robert W. Brydon dies at 90; Summit native's baseball career interrupted by World War II

      Robert W. "Bull" Brydon, 90, of Budd Lake, N.J., died on July 30, 2010, at Little Brook Nursing Home, Califon, N.J.

      A private funeral service was held on Aug. 2. Arrangements were by the Coughlin Funeral Home, Califon.

      Mr. Brydon was born in Summit, N.J., and graduated from Summit High School where he excelled in football and basketball, and was an all-state baseball player.

      After high school, he attended Seton Hall University, where he also played baseball and was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers. His baseball career was interrupted by his enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was promoted to Sgt. in the Pacific Campaigns, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals and various Campaign ribbons.

      Mr. Brydon was unable to fulfill his commitment with the Dodger organization because of injuries suffered during the war. He returned home and joined the family plumbing business, A.W. Brydon and Son. He worked in the family business for many years, and when the business was sold, he joined the Steamfitters Local Union #475, Warren, N.J., where he worked until his retirement.

      Robert Brydon was predeceased by his parents, Alfred W. Brydon and Edna Wright Brydon; his sisters, Doris Peterson, Esther Rogers, Jean Nevius, Ruth Pignataro, Adele Albecker and his brothers, Lawrence Brydon and Harold Brydon.

      Mr. Brydon is survived by his companion, Dell J. Coe of Budd Lake, N.J., and his seven children, Kathleen Ryan, Rochester, N.Y., Judith Esposito, Long Valley, N.J., Elizabeth Pizzuti, Stockton, N.J., Mary Sutton, Laurel, MD, Denise Lovenberg, Hackettstown, N.J., Robert W. Brydon Jr., Hampden, ME, Dennis J. Brydon, Palm Springs, CA, and their mother, his former wife, Anita Loderick Brydon. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, and his sister, Marjorie Trampler, Las Vegas, NV.
