      -------------------------
The Hon. James Leitch, Supreme Court Judge passed away last night at his residence, 30 Dunbar Road, after a somewhat extended illness. He was a native of South Branch, Stormont, Ontario, and at the time of his death was in his 67th year. His father, William Leitch, was a native of Ardrossan, Scotland, and his mother was a daughter of N Bryden of Williamstown, Ontario.

After receiving his education at Williamstown and Cornwall Grammar Schools, the late Justice Leitch was called to the bar in 1876. In 1889 he became the head of the firm Leitch and Pringle, and was made a QC by the Earl of Derby. In 1884 he was elected Reeve of Cornwall, and during the next two years was Mayor by acclamation. He was a leading conservative and unsuccessfully contested the seat of Stormont and Glengarry in 1884 and 1896. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

When the Ontario Railway Board was formed in 1903 Mr. Leitch was made the first chairman by the late Sir James Whitney, who was a warm personal friend of the Justice. He held their position until 1912, when he was made a Justice.

Justice Leitch is survived by a widow, one son, John S Leitch of Toronto, and four daughters, Mrs. Duncan Falkner and Mrs. Walter Fowler of Montreal, Mrs. AR Tilley of Ottawa and Miss Tressa Leitch, at home.
