Born Charles Douglas Govenlock on March 29, 1917 to Alden and May Govenlock at Helston, Manitoba. He was the 2nd of five children. Charlie had an older brother Gordon and three younger sisters, Elsie, Mabel and Islay. He passed away on February 3, 2011 at his home in Arborfield. Charlie attended school in Berton, Manitoba, Lac Vert, Lewis Lake and Naicam, Sask. After graduating in 1933 he moved around a lot, working at various jobs such as lumber camps, road construction, mining and farming in the Blue Jay, Jordon River, Flin Flon, Naicam and Lac Vert areas. In 1942, Charlie was drafted into the Army. He took his training in various places from the east to west coasts. He was released from the army in 1946. In 1959 Charlie married Georgina Quinnell and went from a single man to a husband and father of five. These children were Elma, Joan, Ivan, Anna Jean and Butch. Within the next five years, their family increased with four more kids, Scott, Brenda, Bill and Wendy. During this time, Charlie worked as a carpenter and in the bush during the winter. In May of 1964, Charlie started working at the Arborfield hospital as a maintenance man. He remained with that job until he retired in 1982. In 1966, Charlie suffered the loss of Georgina and in 1973, the loss of his son Ivan. On January 30, 1976 Charlie married Betty Kapeller and again his family grew. At this time, Charlie?s four youngest kids were still living at home and Betty?s two youngest kids, Fred and Colette moved in. Betty's three oldest daughters, Ann, Linda and Doreen were all living in B.C. Charlie was very involved in the community. He was a member of the school board, housing authority, Pasquia Golf Club, Arborfield Seniors, the skating rink and minor hockey.
