  • Notes
    • MARY ALICE HARPER Peacefully and knowing the love of her family, Mary Alice Harper, passed in the early evening of November 7, 2013, at the age of 91. Alice was born on September 1, 1922 to Robert and Helen Simpson. She was always proud of her Scottish heritage, often speaking of how handsome her father looked in his highland dress, being a Pipe Major in many bagpipe bands. Her mother was a consummate host and exceptional cook always having fresh baking for all who visited their home. This legacy lived on through Alice. She met the love of her life, James Kenneth Harper in 1940, with their first date being at Clear Lake. They often mentioned that they both knew from that day forward they were destined for each other. And so their life journeys together began and were married on June 13, 1942. Their 64 year marriage was an inspiration for us all. The words to one of their favourite songs rings true, "if you want to know how true love should be, then, just look at us". With their positive outlook on life, sense of humour, commitment to one and other, and to their beliefs and values, they had a wonderful marriage and life together. Mom will always be remembered as an intelligent, vibrant and informed individual who encouraged her children and grandchildren to always strive to be the best they could be, and to do it with utmost pride. She was a woman of great determination and fortitude, with strong family values. Undoubtedly, one of her greatest joys was her three daughters and all of their personal and professional successes. She was proud of her ever-expanding family, as she always looked forward to the next new addition to the family. Mom and Dad's home was always open to not only their own friends, but to their family's friends as well, and many have close relationships with them. She and Dad loved nature, in particular their beautiful flower gardens. They loved music and they will be long remembered for gliding effortlessly across many dance floors. Alice was predeceased by her parents and five siblings (Harry, Robert, Duncan, Helen and Glen); loving husband, Kenneth Harper; and son-in-law, Elwood Clark. She will be remembered and loved forever by her three daughters; Mary Ellen Clark, Heather Graham (Murray Graham) and Bonnie Frith (Norbert Huth). Her legacy lives on through her eight grandchildren; David (Donna), Donna Mae, Michael (Dawn), Paula (Murray), Jennifer (Jason), Brenna (Kris), Braden (Jennifer), and Barret (Sherelle). Mom's great-grandchildren: Ambre (Kyle), Aalyia, Carter, Cady Elle, Samuel, Addison, Arianna, Joshua, Haley, Zachery, Kyle, Nic, Caroline, Macey, Maddox, Kala, Brandon and Lucas. She also will be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousin. A celebration of her life was held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Neepawa United Church followed by a private family interment beside Kenneth at the Riverside Cemetery, Neepawa. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all for the care and support extended to Mom and to her family. White's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
