  • Notes
    • Canadian Financier and Investment Executive.
Son of James Henry Gundy and Serena Lake Clark. Served as Vice-President from 1945-1948, President 1948-1967, Chairman 1967-1978, to Wood Gundy & Company Limited. The company was initiated in Toronto, Ontario, on February 1, 1905, when George Herbert Wood and James Henry Gundy formed a partnership to engage in the bond business. It grew into a leading Canadian stock brockerage and investment banking firm. In 1925 a limited company was formed, with Mr. Gundy as president and Mr. Wood as senior director. Mr. Wood retired about 1930 and died in 1949. Mr. Gundy died in 1951. In 1959 his son, Charles Lake Gundy became President. Charles served in the Canadian army in WWII ? from 1939-1945. He started at the firm at 21 and worked there until his death in 1978. During that time, he bore the family mantle well: between 1945 and 1965, the firm had a hand in almost $5.5 billion in corporate financings and more than $12 billion of debt issues for Canadian provinces and municipalities. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Wood Gundy was the undisputed leader of Canadian investment dealers. Charles was the company Chair from 1967 ? 1978.
