| Notes |
- The 1881 ontario census lists Bertram Pinkerton, age 7, son of John Pinkerton in King township, York county.
In 1896 he joins the Yukon Order of Pioneers, a fraternal organization with motto "Do unto others as you would be done by."
The 1901 census....
He and his wife Gertrude are living on Dawson Ave. He's 27, she's 28. He's been 3 years in the Yukon; Gertrude 3 weeks. He's making $200/mo. in the mail service.
The gold rush was at its peak in 1898.
In 1903 Polk's Registry lists him as being a checker for the W. P. and Y. route.
The British Yukon Navigation Company personnel records show him in May 1916 applying for work in the river division. He had been an employee of the company since 1901 as a clerk. Before that he had spent 1899 and 1900 as a miner in Atlin BC. Before that he was a school teacher for five years ( this could have been in Ontario). He describes himself as 5' 11.5", 160 lbs, sandy complexion, no beard, brown hair and blue eyes.
It looks like he was accepted to the steamboat service: On June 7th he signs a waiver that, among other things, he agrees to have a monthly fee deducted from his wage for a doctor to attend him in case of sickness or injury.
There is a note written with a different pen saying 'died Dec 17'
(WP&YR Records, Series II-8 - Personnel Records, 1903-48) This record is kept in the Yukon Archives as COR 749
