    • BRYDEN, James Gordon

The flag of the Canadian Legion flew at half-staff to mark the death on October 4th of a well-known district resident and veteran of World War 1, James Gordon Bryden, age 82. Mr. Bryden was born in Tatamagouche, NS. He learned the telegraphy in the railway station in Tatamagouche, moved to Pictou station where he worked for some years before coming West. He married Charlotte Elizabeth Cunningham of Tatamagouche in calgary in 1921, after which he served as operator for Dominion Government Telegraphs at Peace River for 1 year, then moved to the settlement of Waterhole and afterwards to the new community of Fairview to continue his operation. He retired a number of years ago. Mr. Bryden also served as a weather observer from early 1930 to 1955. Mr. Bryden saw action overseas as a signaller with the Canadian Army in World War 1. He was awarded a life membership in the Canadian Legion last year in recognition of his long service. He was predeceased by his wife in April of this year. The funeral was held from St. Paul's United Church, Fairview with Rev. H. J. Miller officiating. Burial followed in family plot at Waterhole cemetery.
