During the first winter they made their clearings they walked back and forth from Guelph, night and morning, 6 miles. They helped cut the Guelph and Goderich road.
Archibald McCorkindale was a pioneer school teacher in Waterloo Co. in 1830 and the money earned helped provision the family till their crops could sustain them. Archibald, born in Paisley 1809, was 19 when the family came to the Paisley Block and spent the rest of his life there.
Archibald was a prominent citizen, clerk of the Twp. in 1858 and for 30 years. He was treasurer in 1877 and held offices till his death in 1888.

Mrs. John Marshall [died]
Mrs. John W. Cleghorn [died]
John McCorkindale the 3rd, the only son, was born on the old homestead. Three generation........ -don't know the rest of the sentence- probably 'lived there'. On the death of his father he was appointed Township Clerk and Treasurer and served till his death in 1905 at 64 years. He was one of the most enterprising and respected citizens of Guelph Twp., and one of the best known men in South Riding. He was long associated with Guelph Fat Stock Club and was Sec-Trees. in 1890. He married Catherine Cleghorn. Their children are Mrs. James A. Laidlaw, Margaret K, Archibald, Robert C., John A.
