  • Notes
    • James Brydon's Walter II

Walter homesteaded in 1877 on NW 1/4 of Section 26, Township 14, Range W 1st Meridian, and lived on that 1/4 all of his life.his life to his death in 1926. He is said to have 'pre-empted' in 1877 the NE 1/4 of Section 26 for the wood, the lumber and a sawmill. He sold that NE 1/4 in 1882. He then bought and logged the SW I/4 Section 26 and, in 1886, he built his log house on the home NW 1/4 Section, using the logs harvested, before marrying Elizabeth Campbell in 1887. George IV Brydon homesteaded in 1887 on the SE 1/4 Section 26, built his shanty and resided there until he and his family moved to Calgary in the early 1890s. He then sold his SE 1/4 Section 26 to James McLaren. From that time on, Walter II owned and farmed the Western 1/2 Section 26 until he retired and his son Allen took over.

Irene Lawrence Richards of the Manitoba Historical Society describes Walter Brydon's arrival in the Neepawa area...
"In 1876 Walter Brydon and Robert Riddle homesteaded two miles east of the present town of Neepawa. The following year brought several more settlers and Union district had begun."
