    • Norman of Augusta, passed away at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta after a short illness.

      He was born in Augusta, the oldest son of Guy E. and Eva (Bryden) Best. He attended Augusta Schools, graduating with the class of 1941. Norman was an Augusta resident his entire life.

      Norman entered into military service with the U.S. Army in 1942, and served stateside in Alaska and Hawaii. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in 1945. He married Everdine Gertrude Knox of Peru, Sept. 24, 1944, in Augusta.

      He was a driver for Maine Central Bus Lines after he was discharged from the Army. He also worked at the Kennebec Journal, Westinghouse Electric, The Senator Motel and finally at Parker-Danner Co. until his retirement in 1986, after 31 years of service.

      He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps. He liked taking pictures and enjoyed collecting photos of his family and special occasions. He was a loving and caring husband and father.

      He is survived by his wife of 63 years; two sons, Norman A. Best and his wife, Dorothy, of Whitefield, and Bradley P. Best of Andover; a sister, Ruby Chase of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a brother, Donald Best of Winthrop; three grandchildren, Julie Condon and her husband, Jon, of Whitefield, Amy Best, who resides in York, England, and Michael Gordon of Whitefield; and two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Tyler Condon.

      He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Ruth.

      Norman's Family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of A-1, at MaineGeneral Medical Center for the wonderful care he received.

      Obituary

      Best - Norman E., 86, of Augusta, died Thursday, Oct. 11, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. Norman will be buried at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery. All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Coopers Mills Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 341, Coopers Mills, ME 04341, or the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330.
