- Steffen Marten "Steve" Skylstad, 97, of Brewster, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at Harmony House Health Care Center.
He was born in Skylstad, Hjorundfjiord, Norway, and immigrated to the United States in 1927. He worked for Biles-Coleman Lumber Co. in Omak and in Kinzua, Ore. He moved to the Methow Valley, where he ran the family farm and did orchard work and carpentry. He later bought and operated the Carlton Caf?. He was a longtime Methow Valley resident.
Survivors include his children, Bishop William Skylstad of Spokane, Olene Konkel of Albuquerque, N.M., Mike Skylstad of Okanogan, Ron Skylstad of Cashmere, and Steve Skylstad of East Wenatchee; and a sister, Johanne of Aalesund, Norway.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster, Bishop William Skylstad celebrant.
Committal and interment will be at the Brewster Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barnes Chapel in Brewster.
Arrangements are by Barnes Chapel.
