    He homesteaded SW1/4 - 4 - 12 - 7 W (the southwest 1/4 section 4, Township 12 and  in Range 7 West of the first Principal Meridian). He filed for a homestead in 1871, lived and died there in 1918 on the farm 3 miles west of Portage la Prairie. 

    Contracted the building of the first schoolhouse in Mt. Pleasant district of Portage La Prairie. The first teacher was a Miss Christina Fraser.
